Meet the team

Registered Manager: Kate Jenner

Dementia care is my passion, and making a difference to those in our care, and their loved ones, is what motivates me every day.

I have been a Registered Nurse for over 30 years, the last 6 of them as manager at Betsy Clara. Prior to this I have had a multitude of work experiences, including NHS hospitals, Community Nursing, a Hospice and several other Nursing Homes.

I enjoy working for the small, family owned group, as family is at the centre of all that we do. We work to promote a sense of family within the home, caring for each and every one, and getting to know our individual residents' likes and dislikes, so that we can provide true individualised person centred care.

We have been on a long journey with our residents, and are always striving to develop new and better ways of supporting our residents to live the best life they can with us, and with their family.

Deputy Manager: Gavin Brace

I have been working in health care for over 20 years and started my career working with Dementia and Care of the older person. I have been fortunate in my career to work in a variety of roles from nursing the acutely sick to end of life care.

I joined team Betsy four years ago after being given shifts via a nursing agency. I found team Betsy to be highly skilled, with the residents being at the heart of the home and receiving excellent standards of care. This is why I joined the team!!

My experience of Dementia and End of Life care, both professionally and personally, has made me passionate about the care residents here receive. I have been fortunate to share my experience and enhance the knowledge and understanding across the team. Thus creating an environment that I would be happy to have any of my family members in.

Administrator: Lauren Mason

After four years working in different sectors of a care home and training to understand different aspects of the care setting, I started at Betsy Clara house as the administrator in march 2021.

Whilst bringing the skills I have gained throughout my training; I have found time to learn and grow within the home with the support from both the staff, managers and residents.

As situations and experiences change on a daily basis within the care home, I have the privilege to work alongside our wonderful residents and be a part of their day-to-day life.

I thoroughly enjoy my role and the setting in which we work, I aim to bring positivity and happiness to all those that live here at Betsy Clara House along with my colleagues.

It is my pleasure to work closely with all that are here and could not imagine a role anywhere else.

Head Chef: Leon Burns

I started at Betsy Clara in July 2020, firstly as a care assistant during the Covid-19 Pandemic, more recently I took the position of Head Chef given my experienced background of running my own business in the hospitality industry and my passion for delivering scrumptious, nutritional, and well-balanced meals. I enjoy baking and get great satisfaction seeing our residents faces light up tucking into their homemade bread and pastry's etc.

I thrive on including residents in every possible way but especially through our cookery workshops with the help of our activities team and enjoy making things they were brought up on (sometimes they are teaching me a thing or two!)

I strongly believe that the dining and front of house experience for our residents is a vital and positive part of their time spent here, hence why it will be my priority to ensure our residents always have the best service possible.

Activities Lead: Kevin Shaw

After gaining many years of experience working in dementia care I came to Betsy Clara House in the summer of 2015, firstly as a senior carer then to take my present role in spring of 2018. This is an exciting and enjoyable position, which enables me to engage and help our residents to enjoy their lives to the full and be actively engaged.

Some of the many things that the team do include Namaste, supporting Spiritual needs, 1 to 1 time, cookery club with the support of chef, music and exercise, and bringing fun and enjoyment into the house.

I feel honoured to do the job I do, and to see a smile on a resident's face makes my day.
